Poly for iPad is an entertaining app that enables you to create exciting geometric designs.
Polygon-based styles are trending, so they’re bound to appeal to digital artists on an aesthetic level.
But how does Poly fair in a functional sense?
Well, the app packages the complex process of triangulation and serves it up through easy-to-understand
tools. It only takes a short amount of time to learn these and once mastered, you can create polygonal artwork with a simple tap.
We recommend slowly adding in points to start with, as tapping too many times can begin to lag the app. Poly lends itself to less complex subjects, following recognisable contours to create believable 3D forms.
This means a more methodical application is the order of the day, and if you work too fast you’re likely to create an unrecognisable mess. With several display modes available, reviewing and assessing your designs is very easy.
However, the lack of zoom controls is a massive sticking point.
With this precision, Poly would have notably improved upon what is already an ingenious app. We’re also hoping to see layered file exports in future versions, which will really open this app up further for Photoshop and Illustrator users.
